About Drop2Hear

Drop2Hear helps you turn written material into something you can hear.

Why we made it

Reading long pages and documents is not always convenient. This tool lets you listen while following along, commuting, or resting your eyes. It is an early project; its aim is a simple, useful listening experience.

What it can read

Paste text or choose a PDF, image, screenshot, DOCX, TXT or Markdown file. Searchable PDFs are extracted directly; scanned pages and images use English OCR. You can review and edit the result before listening.

Two ways to listen

Instant Listen uses the browser or device speech voices and works with long text in navigable passages. Natural Audio generates a downloadable English WAV in your browser after model files download.

Our approach

Document extraction and Natural Audio generation run on your device. The app has no account, backend document processor, or paid speech API. Browser speech voices, model downloads, and static hosting have their own network behavior, explained in the Privacy page.

How local processing works

Your browser extracts document text and uses English OCR for images or scanned pages. Instant Listen then asks your browser or device voice to speak; Natural Audio generates speech in your browser after downloading supporting model assets. Some platform voices may use online services.

Where the project is today

This is a browser-based beta. Voice support, processing speed, OCR accuracy, and offline use vary by browser and device. We welcome practical feedback through the contact details once they are configured for a public launch.
